Terms of Service

Heads up: These Terms of Service are a working draft for our pre-launch period. We will update them with a more thorough version, reviewed by counsel, before opening Philos Pets to the public.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

Welcome to Philos Pets. By creating an account, downloading the app, or otherwise using our service (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

Philos Pets is operated by the developer of Philos Pets ("we," "us," "our"). The Service is provided to you subject to these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Philos Pets. By creating an account, you represent that you are 18 or older and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

If we learn that an account belongs to a person under 18, we will terminate the account and delete the associated data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

3. Your account

You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide when you create your account, and for keeping your sign-in credentials confidential. You may not share your account with anyone else, and you may not create more than one account for yourself.

You're responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. If you suspect your account has been compromised, please contact support@philos.pet immediately.

4. Your content

You retain ownership of the photos, videos, text, and other content you upload to Philos Pets ("Your Content"). By uploading Your Content to the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, and distribute that content solely for the purposes of operating and improving the Service. This license ends when you remove Your Content from the Service or delete your account, except for content already shared with other users (such as messages they've already received) and for the limited time it persists in backup snapshots.

You represent and warrant that you own or have the necessary rights to upload Your Content and that it doesn't infringe on anyone else's rights.

5. Acceptable use

Philos Pets exists to help pets and their humans build genuine connections. To keep the community safe, you agree not to:

Harass, threaten, bully, or stalk other users.
Post sexual, violent, or otherwise inappropriate content.
Impersonate another person, organization, or pet.
Use the Service to promote breeding mills, dog fighting, or any activity that harms or exploits animals.
Engage in spam, scams, phishing, or any deceptive practice.
Use the Service for any commercial purpose without our written permission (e.g., selling pets, advertising services).
Attempt to access another user's account, scrape data, reverse- engineer the app, or interfere with the Service's normal operation.
Use bots or automated tools to interact with the Service.
Violate any applicable law or regulation.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, with or without notice.

6. Pet welfare

Philos Pets is built on respect for animals. We expect all users to treat their own pets, and the pets of others, humanely and responsibly. Any account associated with animal abuse, neglect, illegal sale or trade of animals, or unethical breeding will be terminated immediately, and we may report such activity to relevant authorities.

7. In-person meetings

Philos Pets helps you connect online, but any in-person meeting between users (and their pets) is at your own risk. We don't verify users' identities, conduct background checks, or supervise off-app interactions. Please use common sense, meet in public places, and trust your instincts.

8. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from Profile → Account & app → Delete account in the app. Deleting your account permanently removes your data as described in our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms or if we believe, in good faith, that doing so is necessary to protect other users or the Service itself. We'll try to give you notice when reasonable, but we may act immediately in cases involving safety, abuse, or legal risk.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don't guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any specific matches, conversations, or outcomes will result from using it.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will Philos Pets or its operators be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of the Service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, injury to a pet, or harm resulting from interactions with other users, whether based on warranty, contract, tort, or any other legal theory, and whether or not we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

11. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Philos Pets and its operators from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to Your Content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Governing law and disputes

[The governing law and dispute-resolution clause will be finalized before public launch, after consultation with counsel. For our pre-launch period, disputes will be handled in good faith between the parties.]
